Stories and Traditions
image
Traditions are illuminated, probably more than anything, by the stories first told, then embellished upon and then reinvented to mark our adventures. A journey made bolder and more alive...and even more lovely...with alluring and compelling adornment.
image THE TIMELESS LUSTRE OF SILVER

A reflection of our inner selves…an alchemic blend of our luminous creative and emotionally intelligent souls.

In Greco-Roman mythology, the second Age of Man became The Silver Age. Apollo, the god of truth and light, carried a silver bow and Artemis, goddess of the moon and nature, was bestowed a silver hand. It was during this Silver Age that the four seasons were heralded into the world and then, too, the profound unfolding of their inherent beauty.

Thousands of years have passed since silver has been introduced into our various societies. Symbolically, it is interwoven into the ethos of religions and spiritual practices across the globe...as the water of enlightenment in Judeo-Christian faiths, inner awareness through the third eye in Hindu and Tantric Buddhism, as one of the Seven Sacred Bodies in Islamic alchemy, and the representation of the purified and regenerative nature of humans to the ancient Egyptians.

In cultures spanning centuries, silver has been gifted as a token of trust, an emblem of truth, in honor of wisdom and in devotion of love. With this incandescent metal, we adorn ourselves with the reflective nature of our true souls, our creative energy, and our unwavering grace.
image THE RADIANT REFINEMENT OF BRASS

A triumphant harmony of delicacy and inherent strength...this is your essence.

Dating from the 8th century B.C., the earliest known brass artifacts came from the excavation at the Gordion Tomb in what is now modern day Turkey. This vastly diverse alloy’s properties have been harnessed for use in nearly every facet of innovation, from tools to musical instruments to divine adornment. In antiquity, polished brass was used, in its likeness, as a mirror; Romans fashioned brass into coins. Pythagoras, the Greek philosopher, mathematician, and mystic, believed that brass had oracular powers, claiming that while everything around him stood perfectly still, there continued to be a palpable vibration in bowls and vessels made of this luminous metal.

To dream of its stunning halcyon hue signifies abundance and prosperity. A well of life’s riches held--deeply rooted--in the strength, passion and calm of our true selves.
image COLLECTING CHARMS TO TELL YOUR STORY

Our stories begin with remnants of tales, of the imagination, of friendships from our childhood. As we grow, so do our stories composed of joy and tears and achievement and love and truth. This is the very truth we build our lives upon--our narratives evolve, new chapters are written, new endings created which, almost miraculously, turn into more brilliant beginnings. These stories are our lives in full color.

Collecting charms is one of the most ancient of rituals. Hermetic philosophers worked with charms of various metals to prevent and treat disease. Ancient Egyptians drew upon them for faith, protection and luck. Queen Victoria introduced the charm bracelet to noble society for the purpose of both fashion and honoring legacy...a melding of two worlds, which eventually carried on to the American teenagers in the 1950’s who collected charms to record events happening in their lives.

Charms have evolved to restore our hopes in forms of amulets and to tell our stories with these hopes leading the way. You have your own stories to tell, to share with the world, a few close friends, your family or to keep for yourself. They are yours and yours alone. Make your stories grand or tiny, historically accurate or fairytales. Make them about who you were or who you are now or who you want to become (or a little of each).

When we gather charms for ourselves, we seek to collect the bits of our lives we want to remember, to commemorate, to honor, to appreciate. We gather more to better receive our hopes and dreams, to be wide open to possibility. We give these charms to loved ones who need that extra embrace of this hope so they, too, can begin to tell their own stories.
image THE ENERGY OF ARTISAN-MADE JEWELRY

An artist's energy rarely flows with such stunning magnitude as is it does when streaming from the creative mind and out through the hands. Handmade jewelry offers us this radiant energy with which to adorn ourselves.

Much comes of our modern society’s use of machines. We are capable of attaining precision with mechanics, though without the seminal design unfurling through human touch, machine made jewelry can lack the soulful artistry and humanity found in handmade objects. In a world where contact and thought is exchanged via technological gadgetry, we are still grounded and nurtured through our emotions, inspired connections, and more significantly through our sense of touch.

Waxing Poetic's designers, artists, and craftspeople thrive in their creation of compelling beauty. Striking a powerful balance with tools often handmade themselves, the artists and craftspeople orchestrate the use of machine precision with handcrafted refinement into the enchanting objects of jewelry presented and available for you here.

When you hold Waxing Poetic jewelry in your own hands, know the manifestation of this exquisite creative and soulful energy will extend to you, your vibrant life and the deeply held connections you treasure with others.
